KURBA WAQF ORCHARD PROGRESS REPORT
Overview
This report highlights the progress made in the development of Kurba Waqf Orchard. Significant achievements have been made in establishing the orchard, and the work is progressing according to schedule. Below is a detailed breakdown of the completed tasks and ongoing activities.
Work Completed:
1. Site Clearance
The site was cleared to make way for the orchard development. This involved the removal of vegetation and other unwanted weeds, herbs and obstacles.
2. Setting Out
Proper markings and layout of the site were established.
3. Harrowing & Ridging
The land was harrowed and ridged to prepare it for planting.
4. Beaconing
Beaconing was done to clearly mark boundaries and key points within the orchard.
5. Pit Marking
Pits were marked for planting the trees and seedlings.
6. Excavation & Composting for 700 Seedlings
Excavation was completed for 700 pits, and compost was applied to ensure optimal growing conditions.
7. Fencing with Wire Mesh
The orchard has been fenced with wire mesh to provide protection against animals and trespassers.
8. Geophysical Survey
A geophysical survey was conducted to assess the water availability and other important features of the land.
9. Drilling of Borehole
A borehole has been drilled to provide water for irrigation and other purposes.
10. Procurement of Tommy Mango Seedlings (150)
150 Tommy Mango seedlings were procured from Zaria.
11. Procurement of Moringa Seedlings (500)
500 Moringa seedlings were sourced from Kwadon.
12. Procurement of 0.75Hp Solar Submersible Pump with 3 Solar Panels (300W each)
A solar-powered water pump was procured to assist with irrigation.
13. Application of Herbicide
Herbicide has been applied to control weeds and maintain the cleanliness of the orchard.
14. Procurement of Pawpaw Seeds
– Pawpaw seeds were procured from Bayero University, Kano (BUK) to be planted in the orchard.
Land Details:
– Total Land Area: 125m x 100m = 12,500m² (1.25 hectares)
– Planned Plantation:
– Mango (Tommy Mango): 150 trees
– Date Palm: 50 trees
– Moringa: 500 trees
– Pawpaw: 400 trees
Project Timeline:
– Site Clearance: Started on 14th August 2024
– Harrowing & Ridging: Began on 21st August 2024
