Introduction:

The document at hand is a narration of the detail the events and the proceedings of the training workshop on Waqf management that was conducted by the Zakah and Waqf Foundation Gombe being delivered  by the chairman of the foundation M. Abdullahi A. Lamido to Muslim Youth organization within Gombe state. The Training was conducted at the conference centre of Zakah and waqf foundation office in Gombe.

About the participants:

About ten (10) Muslim youth organization within Gombe State were invited. These include: MSSN, MCAN, NACOMYO, IMAN, UMMA GSU, UMMA FUK, UMMA FCE(T), OSADA and NACFIT. All were in attendance except IMAN and GSU Umma making the total number of 22 participants. The delegates who participated in the program were introduced with the objectives of the Foundation and its activities. The need for harmonization between the organizations and the foundation were also discussed with a fruitful outcome.

Training Goal

The Main objective of the Training on Waqf Management is to get the delegate to learn the essential thing on Waqf, its conceptual background and operational principle. Along with that, synergizing among various Islamic organizations toward uplifting the economic wellbeing of the Umma through Waqf.

Workshop Contents:

The following core concepts were covered in the training:

  • General Introduction (Why the concept of Waqf)
  • Meaning of Waqf
  • Waqf Characteristics
  • Pillars/ Element of Waqf
  • Classification of Waqf
  • Aspect of Waqf in History


Training Procedures in brief:

The program started at about 9.15am with the opening prayer by Dr. Usman the chief Imam Federal University Kashere central Mosque, the Head of Research, Training and Documentation (Umar Faruk Ahmad) gave an opening remark followed by 3.5 hours presentation by the chairman of the Foundation M. Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido.

The Trainer and the trainees set a guideline to be applicable during the training hours in order to maintain a productive and organized Training program.

Then the participants were asked by the trainer, How many among them read or being thought about waqf? Few trainees answered yes and shared their views of the knowledge they had about the topic in question.

After this session was proceeded by the trainer explaining the main purpose of the training and what the trainees will learn about it, by pointing out major areas to be covered during the day presentation.

The Training covers the first module i.e. the conceptual background and operational principle of Waqf, it was successful, educative and interactive gathering. It triggered very interesting discussion and interest toward implementation of waqf, promoting it knowledge and synergizing among various Islamic organizations toward uplifting the economic wellbeing of the Umma.

Facilitation techniques (Foundations Jotter and a Pen) were also provide.

There was a lauch break Lasting for about 15 minutes with an interaction going concurrently, the refreshments were also provided to each of  the participants, Hafiz waqafated drinks needed and the remaining were sourced from the foundations account. Takeaway food were also prepared by M. Maryam yaya and distributed to participants after the two merged programs (women empowerment).

QS Ahmad Kabir provides us with Generator, projector and the fuel that were Used throughout the programs.

In attendance among the management team was:

  1. Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido,Umar Faruk Ahmad, Hafiz Usman Taliyawa,, Abdullahi Baba Maryam Yaya, QS Ahmad Kabir, Maryam Yaya, Aisha Usman and Aisha Saad.

Closing of the Training

After the presentation some of the trainers reiterated the importance of the training to them and expressed their readiness for applying the learnt concept of Waqf.

The program ended at about 1:45pm

Conclusion and Recommendations

  • Alhamdulillah The training program was conducted successfully and all the participants took active part of the training. From the result of interactions shows that most of the delegate did not know about the concept of Waqf before the training and after the training they could explain the topic.
  • The unit recommends that should continue engaging organization in such a training and devised a follow up mechanism for it proper implementation and improvement.
  • Training tools should be provided in subsequent training for effective process.
  • Certificate should be provided for each training.
